They were created by renowned artist and UC Davis professor Robert Arneson and installed on campus between 1991 and 1994.
The Egghead Series is exclusively licensed from the artist’s estate for UC Davis merchandise. A percentage of the proceeds benefits the preservation of the Eggheads.©2024 Estate of Robert Arneson / Licensed by VAGA at Artists Rights Society (ARS), NY

Outside Shields Library, you can see Bookhead, the first Egghead sculpture installed, with its brow furrowed and nose buried in a book. During finals week, students often rub it for good luck. The Bookhead Silk Scarf is a favorite in the Arneson Egghead Collection, an assortment of Eggheads-licensed products. It is 100% mulberry silk and features hand-stitched edges.
“As our museum and online manufacturing and retail partner, Lost Pattern helped bring
the Eggheads collection to life. The quality of their products, design and packaging
beautifully translated Arneson’s three-dimensional sculptures into a two-dimensional wearable scarf that can be worn in multiple ways by all ages.”
